The Spirit of Reading.

The fun spirit of reading seems to be fast dying among the present day generation. In the past, kids used to count all their savings and allowances to buy story books and comics, sadly this is no more the case. Reading helps them in building their vocabulary as well as their imagination making them smarter in everything they do. It also educates them on different cultures, fables and tales from different parts of the world which helps them to have a stronger value system as well as morals. Now a days, parents are too busy in the office or in the home to have time to tell their children folktales which they (The parents) may have grown up on that improved our value system. Nigerian folktales about the Tortoise, The lion, The hare, The hyena, The Monkey etc are rich in lessons vital in building up the Morals and Value system of kids as well as teaches us on our norms and local beliefs which are important in preserving our cultures. During this long Holiday with your kids, we would like to hereby appeal to Parents and Guardians to please make out time to encourage your children to read even if it were for just 40minutes (depending on their age and attention span) If you don't have access to books, here are some interesting and educative websites that have a wide range of stories that may appeal to your ward, Remember: by doing so you are improving their vocabulary- spellings, helping them to learn new words, pronunciations etc.
Goodnight stories
 Kidsites
Childrens eLibrary
Harrypotter-scholastic

You can also keep them entertained with crossword puzzles, wordsearch games etc on these sites:

Have a blessed and Very happy Holiday with your kids! don't forget to keep them busy and help them grow mentally and morally.

Raising a Peaceful Generation.

Sunshine International School is proud to be the First School in Bauchi State And the whole of Nigeria to introduce the Peace project into School activities in September 2010. The school is Extremely proud to see that other schools in Bauchi are fast following their steps to teach their students the spirit of peace, love and sharing. The students of S.I.S have been taught the spirit of giving (to the less privileged) as well as loving people equally irrespective of their race, gender, religion, ability or disability and with the help of their parents they have fed, clothed and provided toys for Orphans and almajiris in NOT only Bauchi state but Abuja- the Federal Capital Territory where food, clothes, toys and writing materials were sent to orphanages.
One of the most important aspects of bringing a child up is to instil the notion of sharing within them.  The ability to share will always inspire a peaceful atmosphere so making our children aware that sharing with one another is a vital life skill is of paramount importance.
